Lee Schrager Now Counting the King of Spain Among His Conquests

Juan Carlos I is coming to dinner. Food festival kingpin Lee Schrager, the author of both the forthcoming New York Wine and Food Festival and its South Beach sibling, is a macher (operator) of legendary proportions, but even I am awestruck by what I’m hearing: The Feedbag has it on good authority that Schrager is meeting with His Majesty Juan Carlos I, King of Spain, to finalize negotiations bringing the monarch to preside over the “Viva Espana” dinner being held next February at SOBE. Schrager, reached for comment, admits he is going to Madrid next week, but issued a terse “no comment” when asked if he was sealing the deal with the King. If true, this should take Ibero-American relations to their highest point since the temporary dip after Vicki Cristina Barcelona didn’t deliver on its promise of a Cruz / Johannsen makeout scene.
